Planned bridge maintenance at Read New Bridge, Whalley Road (A671), Read, BB7 9DS

I am writing to let you know about planned bridge maintenance works in your ward at Read New Bridge, Whalley Road (A671), Read, BB7 9DS, which carries the A671 over Sabden Brook.
Lancashire County Council will be undertaking scour repair and protection works at the bridge. These works are essential to repair scour damage and help protect the structure from future erosion, ensuring its continued safe operation.
When the works will take place
- Start date: Week commencing Monday 24 August 2026
- Duration: Approximately five weeks (weather dependent)
Temporary traffic management involving two-way lights will be required during the site set-up and demobilisation phases of the works. These will be in place for approximately 5 days each at the beginning and the end of our work. These will be kept to the minimum necessary to undertake the works safely.
The majority of the works will be undertaken within the watercourse and away from the carriageway. As a result, most activities will be carried out offline and out of sight of highway users, and disruption to road users is expected to be limited.
